"I want a life that sizzles and pops and makes me laugh out loud. And I don't want to get to the end, or to tomorrow, even, and realize that my life is a collection of meetings and pop cans and errands and receipts and dirty dishes. I want to eat cold tangerines and sing out loud in the car with the windows open and wear pink shoes and stay up all night laughing and paint my walls the exact color of the sky right now. I want to sleep hard on clean white sheets and throw parties and eat ripe tomatoes and read books so good they make me jump up and down, and I want my everyday to make God belly laugh, glad that he gave life to someone who loves the gift.” (Shauna Niequist- Cold Tangerines: Celebrating the Extraordinary Nature of Everyday Life)
It is fall. My favorite, of course. I love that it brings all my favorite things...apples and pumpkins, soups and cookies, cool weather and hot coffee. But you know what? I want to make certain that we do not sit back and get so comfortable in this season that we aren't enjoying and taking hold of every single moment. I want to do everything we love and remember it all.
I am going to bundle up in a few weeks and make piles of leaves with my boys. We will talk about the smell they have and the sounds they make, and I will remember how I did this every fall as a kid. Then? I will jump in with them.
I want to go on a haunted hayride date with my husband, just like when we were in high school. I will probably scream, and I will definitely hold his hand.
We will eat soup at least once a week and bake homemade cookies all the time.
I will burn pumpkin candles and wear boots and wool socks.
I am going to enjoy every last drop of my coffee...they way the hot cup feels in my hand when there is a nip in the air and the smell of a nice dark roast.
I am going to be beaming with joy behind my camera as I shoot all these sweet fall sessions, and I am going to laugh with my little dancers during our Halloween costume week...because it is so cool that these are my jobs.
We will spend our evenings snuggled under blankets on the couch, watching movies and reading books.
Welcome, Fall! I am so glad to see you again. Let's make this the best one yet!
