As a person who has struggled with anxiety and worries all the time, it has always been a comfort to me to know that God will provide all that we need. Our daily bread. I have been sitting on a few verses for a while:
"Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice. Let your reasonableness be known to everyone. The Lord is at hand; do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayers and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus." (Philippians 4: 4-7)
"Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing." (James 1: 2-4)
"Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and he will make your paths straight." (Proverbs 3: 5-6)
"It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery." (Galatians 5:1)
I would read these verses, and many many more, and feel better. Temporarily. I would feel the pangs of anxiety leave and I would feel okay.
Then the next thing would happen that would make me worry, and we would start this cycle over again. And again. And again.
The freedom didn't come until I stopped just knowing these things, just reading my Bible and devotions, just saying I didn't need to worry...and I started living like I knew it was true. Christ gave his life for me, so that I could be free and made new. Let's stop just knowing that, and living like it. When we say goodbye to worry and anxiety, we make room for so much more that The Lord has for us.
